This library within the park begins with a gaze toward the historic city and the memory of the orchards that once lay outside the city walls, later becoming part of a tree-lined promenade.
The continuity of vegetation—whether productive or recreational—led to the search for a library that could live off the park while preserving as many existing trees as possible.
Esta biblioteca en el parque comienza con una mirada a la ciudad histórica, a la memoria de las huertas que existían fuera de la muralla, que luego formarían parte de un paseo arbolado. La continuidad de la vegetación (productiva o para el ocio) nos llevó a la búsqueda de una biblioteca que viviera del parque y pudiese conservar todos los árboles posibles.
The condition of the path guided the project toward establishing relationships with the existing promenade and other points within the park, in addition to providing spaces for rest and shelter beneath the trees. The library engages with the public space by extending the same paving used in the interior to the exterior.
The flooring consists of ceramic tiles that reflect the exposed slab made of ceramic hollow blocks and concrete joists.
Horizontal elements such as the joists and the paving units establish a rhythm along the access path and throughout the interior circulation of the library.
La condición del camino nos lleva a la búsqueda de la relación con el paseo existente y otros puntos en el parque, además del descanso y el cobijo de los árboles. La biblioteca vive el espacio público extendiendo el mismo pavimento que en el interior. El pavimento
consiste en baldosas cerámicas que reflejan el forjado visto de bovedilla cerámica y viguetas de
hormigón. Los elementos horizontales como las viguetas y las piezas en el pavimento marcan el ritmo
en el camino de acceso y en los recorridos interiores de la biblioteca.
The library is composed of brick walls that gather and organize the whole: they are load-bearing and house the service and storage spaces.
Between these walls unfolds the program of the 21st-century library, seeking diverse relationships with its surroundings that generate different encounters and uses related to leisure, culture, and knowledge.
The courtyards preserve existing trees and separate areas requiring silence, while the volumes between walls contain the served spaces of the library.
La biblioteca consiste en unos muros de ladrillo que recogen todo: son portantes y alojan los espacios servidores y de almacenaje. Entre los muros se desarrolla el programa de la biblioteca del siglo XXI, buscando distintas relaciones con su entorno que den lugar a distintos encuentros y usos de ocio, cultura y conocimiento. Los patios recogen los árboles existentes y separan las zonas que requieren silencio, mientras las pastillas entre muros recogen las salas servidas de la biblioteca.
The enclosures between the walls are lightweight, made of wood and glass, and reinforce the horizontal character of the walls, which rise above the roof and shape the exterior spaces related to the library.
Los cerramientos entre muros son ligeros, de madera y vidrio, y refuerzan la horizontalidad de los muros, que superan la cubierta y configuran los espacios exteriores vinculados a la biblioteca.
